“It is on Inner Circle Music, the label of saxophonist Greg Osby, that another saxophonist, Michel El Malem, makes his comeback. With him in “Dedications”, Romain Pilon on guitar, Stéphane Kerecki on double bass and Luc Isenmann on drums, the latter already present on “Reflets”, Michel’s previous album. The pianist, once again, is Marc Copland and the harmonic subtlety of his interventions brings a lot to this collective creation in which the whole band is involved. Although all composed by the leader, the album’s long, flowing tracks seem to have been improvised, with the musicians playing them as if they were performing a concert at their best.”
